Nationwide Platforms, part of the Loxam Group PLC, are both the UK and Europe’s market leader in powered access equipment hire and of IPAF training courses for work at height. Their vast range of access platforms includes cherry pickers, boom lifts, telehandlers, and scissor lifts.
Building from the ground up
As part of an ambitious and expansive European programme of business transformation, several underperforming digital platforms had been identified to be re-architected and rebuilt to meet their future commerce and strategic operational capabilities.
Ridgeway was initially approached and commissioned to provide their internal technical development team with an advanced level of dedicated Kentico platform consultancy for their current solution. This helped support a deeper level of platform evaluation and skills transfer however with a very pressing business-critical transformation timeline and a finite resource held internally, our remit quickly widened to provide further digital UX and web development services. This included the scoping and delivery of three key v12 MVC Kentico Xperience DXP commerce projects:
- Loxam Powered Access - a self-contained division within the Loxam Group that specialises in the rental of powered access equipment.
- Main UK and European hire sites - built as a centralised platform and codebase enabling the ongoing and efficient launch of several localised country-specific variants.
- Training site - promoting their “Our Safety, Your Priority” for accredited work at height and powered access courses, These included IPAF, PASMA, IOSH, CITB, CPCS, first aid, and eLearning.
Rising to the top
Several third-party integrations were incorporated including L-Vis CRM, for the provision of core course, product, and a range of mandatory and optional add-ons. SagePay provided the main payment processing gateway, Azure for extended search, Loqate for postcode lookup, and a Google Maps feed powering a depot location finder.
To help boost their organic search rankings and provide a deeper level of performance insight, Ridgeway implemented an extended schema with mark-up and hooked events for corresponding Google Analytics eCommerce tracking. Discount code management and a range of specific page widgets were also anchored to dedicated template zones allowing the editorial team to efficiently run promotions and shape a range of upsells for product platforms.
All three sites were successfully launched within a tight three-month delivery period, hosted within the Loxam App service Azure environment, and supported by Ridgeway under a defined SLA. A short roadmap of further parallel enhancements was undertaken over the next few months with a period of skills transfer undertaken before control was handed back over to the Nationwide Platform’s team and their final strategic objective achieved.
